Must the log be replaced?

Charles from Pennsylvannia asked:

I Bought a ventless gas log set DEB20NV on Feb 7, 2008 from your company. I was doing annual maintenance and the tip of log #3 broke off. I was still able to reassemble and stack the logs properly and just laid the broken tip next to remainder of log # 3.  Will the broken tip cause a problem with the operation of the ventless gas log unit??? And must the log be replaced?

Many thanks!

Answer:

The ventless gas log will need to be replaced and should be removed from the burner.  The section of log that is loose could interfere with the flame from the burner and cause sooting as well as an odor.
